The aim of our organisation is to fight Gender Based Violence through cultivating “Healthy
Mindhoods” in the youth of South Africa. The IsiZulu proverb says “Ugotshwa Usamila”,
which we translate to the healthy socialisation of young males.
Our organisation aims to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals of for gender equality, end poverty, promote peace and inclusive
societies, and ensure healthy lives.
Our core intention is to promote healthy and respectful manhood in order to prevent
violence against women, sexual assault, harassment, bullying, and many other social ills.
We are working collaboratively with various organisations and institutions to promote
healthy and respectful manhood and shift the mindsets, attitudes and behaviours of
males that devalue women, girls, and other marginalized groups. Our ultimate goal is to
create a world where all boys/men are challenge, problematise and are cognisant of the
effects of their behaviours and treatments of females that they may have been
socialised to believe are normal and acceptable with the aim of redefining manhood to
be loving and respectful so as to ensure that all women and girls are valued and safe.
We frame the “Mission” of our organisation as one that embarks on a process of
planting the seed idea of welcoming attitudes and behaviours towards women, girls, and
other marginalized groups and particularly at a sensitive consideration conquer the negative
use of power that men are having over women.
Our “Vision” is to establish a safer living environment for women and girls and ensures
that all males are acquainted with the dignity and integrity that females deserve. To maintain
women's safety and ensures that they are respected and valued in our societies by sowing
and promoting healthy manhood for all males.
OUR SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY
• The Men Carve is unique in its ability to be affirming and respectful to the
experiences of women while expressing genuine care and hope for men.
• Through seminars and workshops, THE MEN CARVE challenges men to reconsider
their long-held beliefs about women, in an effort to create a more just society.
• We help to organize communities in order to raise awareness and get men involved
in ending violence against women and girls.
